Guest Writer: Stephanie Maisonneuve

Well, it’s that time of the year again! New Year’s Eve is lurking - a time where we start celebrating and reflecting on the past months and talking new year resolutions…but have you made NYE vacations plans yet? If not, stay calm - there are still several last-minute vacation deals available to you that will not require you to dig deep into your pockets.

Planning an epic New Year’s Eve is obviously not easy. Luckily for you, we’ve rounded up 5 of the best places to go this New Year’s Eve, how to keep it cheap, and what to pack for the weather or activities.

1. Siem Riep, Cambodia

SIem Rep Cambodia_Black Travel Box Blog

Wanna spend your NYE vacation in a country with exceptional landscapes, delicious foods and ancient landmarks…that is also unbelievably cheap? This is definitely the place to be.

Siem Riep, Cambodia is also home to Ta Prohm, Angkor Wat, and the Bayon. You will get to experience all these breathtaking sights without having to go hard on your wallet. A four-star hotel in this area will cost you just $27 per night while the average cost of a meal ranges between $1.50 and $6.00 making this place one of the best and cheapest family getaways for New Year’s Eve.

Of course, if you’re going to travel to Southeast Asia you’ll want to explore more of the region, so we suggest staying at least 10 days and fly to nearby countries such as Thailand for as low as $85. Depending on departure in December, you’ll find flights from the U.S. for less than $1100. But keep your eyes on sites like The Flight Deal and Secret Flying as well, as this time of the year, flight deals start poppin’ up, and you may be able to snag tickets for the low-low.

What to pack

December is one of the best times to visit Cambodia as it is much cooler with temperatures averaging 77°F. So you can still bring your flip-flops and shorts, but be sure to carry a shawl to cover up your shoulders when visiting temples and an umbrella for light showers.

2. San Francisco, California

From underground DJ shows in warehouses to swanky balls, San Francisco really does have it all for NYE. And there’s also the famous fireworks show held from the Ferry building every 31st December at midnight.

Want to party grown and sexy style? You’ll find lots of 21+ parties in posh hotels with separate music rooms to cater to all music heads and the latest dance craze. Most include ball drops at midnight, various dance floors, and drinks. Enjoy reggae rooms and bop your head to 90s hits at the Epic NYE 2019 in Park Central Hotel with tickets starting at $30. However, you choose to jumpstart 2019, be sure to check out party details and dress codes.

What to pack

NYE parties call for sparkle and dazzle so carry your flapper dress or suit to help you cruise around the San Francisco skyline, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge, all while enjoying live casino games and music.
