Sometimes our travel lists are just longer and bigger than our pockets, but does this mean that we just don’t go? Ummmmmm, we think not! And Ariel Rose, our Travel Crush Tuesday, doesn’t think so either. No stranger to traveling frequently and affordably, this jetsetter is here to show us how she travels to a new destination every month on a budget. Pack those bags and let’s go!
1. Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
I’m Ariel Rose, a travel blogger traveling to a new destination every month to dive deep into local culture, food, and to have adventures. I’m originally from the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. My parents aren’t from the states, and I have family all over the world so traveling from a young age was normalized.
when I was about 5 or 6 years old, I spent a summer in the Cayman Islands with my siblings and we stayed with family. I think this time overseas in particular plays a big role in why I love to travel as much as I do today. I got the travel bug at such a young age, and it just hasn’t slowed down. I feel as though life is experienced through living it, not just watching a show, or reading about it. There are just somethings you can’t learn in a classroom. You must go out into the world and experience cultures, languages, foods, and go out of your comfort zone. That’s what inspired me to travel.
2. To those wishing to monetize their travel experiences, what is your advice to them?
Fall in love with creating content and always making it better. This doesn’t mean you have to have the most expensive gear or years in the game but just a drive to always want to get better. Once you have that, there’s plenty of ways to monetize. Start a blog and partner with brands for post, run ads on your site, sell products that make the travel experience easier like itineraries or must have items. Go to YouTube and monetize your channel for another stream. I started my YouTube journey last year and have honestly loved it. My goal was to monetize my channel within 6 months, and I made it happen! Work with brands on social media campaigns across platforms from Instagram to Pinterest. You can even create your own trips. There are so many options.
3. As a blogger, were you always a storyteller and writer or was that something that came later?
I wasn’t always a writer. I mean when I look back on college, I could always whip out a paper last minute and do well on it, but I never considered myself a writer. Funny enough I started my blog while I was in college, but I wouldn’t say it was for a love of writing. It was more so a place for FAQs where I could direct people. As a student athlete I picked my schedule early and would work around it to make time for travel. Other students, especially student athletes, would wonder and ask how I traveled so much, especially being a broke college student with a lot of on campus commitments. I wanted to show all college students that it was possible to travel frequently and affordably, so I started my blog.
4. With your goal of exploring a new country every month, how many have you been to, and which one was your favorite?
I have been to 26 countries across 5 continents. Last year I challenged myself to accomplish what I called #25by25. Visiting 25 countries by my 25th birthday which I made happen in January 2022! The goal of visiting a new country every month played a part in that goal. Now that it’s been achieved, I still love the thrill and momentum of traveling internationally every month so I’m keeping it going.
Currently, my goal of visiting a country a month connects to my Caribbean Tour. I plan on visiting every Caribbean Island and immersing myself in the culture of each. I can’t name just one favorite country, but my favorites include Jamaica, Peru, St. Lucia, and Italy. Jamaica is a homeland and honestly, it’s hard to beat. From the beaches to the food, the people to the music, it’s amazing. Peru is my largest solo trip to date. I spent one month there working with medical clinics and learning Spanish my final semester of college. It took a lot of work for me to get that trip approved by my department, but it was absolutely worth it.
5. If you had a ticket to go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I get this question often but honestly, it’s difficult to answer because I want to go everywhere! I will say that I would use that ticket to finally make my way to an African country. This year I will be visiting Africa for the first time, and I am very excited. I have three trips planned there for this year spanning at least 5 countries but hopefully I can fit in even more.
Where can folks find you other than Instagram?
I am happy to connect with fellow travel lovers on any of my platforms. This year you can even travel with me! I have opened my first group trip to my community and I am very excited about it. We will be traveling to Thailand Dec 4-11, 2022. There are about 11 spots left, and I would love to have you.
