Bold. Adventurous. Fearless. Those are the words that comes to mind when we think about this week’s Travel Crush. Meet Axelle! When others expressed apprehension about backpacking around the world, this hodophile packed her bags and did it anyways. Now she is learning new languages and managing her own vacation rentals to make her dreams come true. We think you’re going to crush on her as hard as we are.
1. Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
I am Axelle, a 23-year-old French girl who loves traveling this amazing world! I studied Tourism and then started working to travel more. Since April 2021, I have been living in Colombia. I came as tourist for 6 months, and I ended up staying here with a PVT Visa for one year more. I recently bought an apartment in Colombia and rent it on Airbnb to tourists. I will be looking for a job in tourism to make more money.
2. How many countries have you been to and which is the most underrated place you've been? Why should people jump at the chance to go?
I have been to 27 countries and honestly, it’s quite hard to tell you what the most underrated place I’ve been to. I would say that New Zealand and Colombia have been my two favorite countries. For the nature lovers and those who love discovering breathtaking landscapes and learning about new cultures, New Zealand is a kind of paradise. This country brought me peace and made me grow so much. I feel that New Zealand people are the best I’ve met. I fell in love with Colombia 3 years ago. Colombian people are so amazing, their culture, their history, their country. Santa Marta is the perfect place and has everything you want, wonderful beaches, mountains, city, campaign, and glaciers for the adventurous.
My most cherished travel memory was going to South America with my best friend as backpacker. We visited 6 unforgettable countries. Our families were worried because two young girls in South America was a crazy and irrational idea for them. We really wanted to prove them that there is danger in every country but that everything would be ok. And we did it. We came back full of amazing memories. We grew so much! A year later, my mum even decided to come to Colombia with my brother and I, and they loved it. Never listen the cliches about another country on TV, just go and see with your own eyes.
4. Besides the obvious, like your phone, what is the one item you wouldn't go anywhere without?
If I had to choose one item I wouldn’t go anywhere without, I’d say my hair products hahaha. It is so important for me to take care of my hair. It doesn’t matter where I am, I always have my creams and afro hair comb.
5. What effect has travel had on you and your life?
Travel has opened my mind so much, I learned so many things about our world and it made me grow and become more independent. Also, it allowed me to improve my English and Spanish.
Here are some more of our favorite travelers and their gorgeous shots.
