Welcome to Travel Crush Tuesday!
We love the quote, now common phrase, "Not all who wander are lost." For us there is a lot of truth here. Yes, it's true, that in traveling some are on a quest to find themselves and make clear their values, aspirations, goals and more. For us though, when we travel we are our truest self! We stand firmly in our core being wherever we go, nurturing the parts of us exposed to the hustle and bustle of life to become whole again.
We've said it before and we'll say it again, travel is our self care. Our Newest TCT would agree! When scrolling through her instagram it's hard not to slip into a place of calm with her gorgeous and blissful images abroad. Meet Danielle, Canadian-Barbadian, Digital Investor and Content Creator! She's a wanderer, going wherever her heart takes her and finding healing where she goes. Keep reading and get to know Danielle!
Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
My name is Danielle Beckford and I’m a 32 year old Toronto-based content creator. I was born in Canada but grew up in Barbados, and only moved back to Canada 3 yrs ago, so much of my culture and upbringing has been Caribbean-centered. My education and professional background are in Advertising Sales and Marketing, so I’ve worked in different ad agencies and media houses for much of my career. I have a passion for creating compelling content which tells a story and takes my audience on the journey with me, so I’ve been taking photos and capturing moments for years. I started my IG blog in 2017 as a hobby, and developed it into a business within the last 2 years. I’m also a digital investor where I trade and invest in crypto and foreign exchange currency, while assisting other investors on their trading journey. I’ve always been a curious mind with a passion for different cultures and sceneries so my love for travel came naturally.
How do you make frequent travel your reality and what is your advice to others who would like to make frequent travel their reality as well?
As a result of COVID I haven’t been able to travel as frequently but I did take a couple trips within the last year, the most recent being my visit back home to Barbados where I’ve been since December! Wasn’t the plan to stay this long but I love that I was able to reconnect and recharge, getting a much needed mental break from city life in lockdown. I do plan to travel however by the end of the year and more next year, and I’d say to anyone interested in doing so to do their research on the countries they’re visiting beforehand so that they feel some level of safety and awareness where COVID cases and protocols are concerned. I think we need to be responsible as travelers now more than ever, and while we’re all over it and want to get on with our lives again, acceptance that a new or revised version of what we deem as normal is necessary in moving forward.
How many countries have you visited and which country was your favorite? Why is this country in your number one spot?
I’ve visited 13 countries, so there’s a lot more to check off my bucket list but Greece was definitely my favorite. I went to Athens and Santorini but spent more time in Santorini and the memories will stay with me (not to mention the endless photos lol) until I revisit. From the breathtaking views to the food, it was such a therapeutic trip...I stayed in a villa in Oia- I love that everything was on the same compound- room, shops, restaurants you name it. I still did my fair share of tours but the convenience and ease of accessibility was a huge plus. I can’t wait to return.
With the world so vast, how do you choose where to go next? Are you a spin a globe and point kind of traveler or a flight tracking traveler?
There are many options indeed, but I go wherever I’m personally drawn to- if I find the people and culture intriguing, landscape captivating or atmosphere an all around good vibe I’m there. Travel teaches you so much about the world in which we live and, while we can discover and learn about new places thanks to technology, there’s nothing like actually visiting in person.
Share with us your most memorable travel experience? What made it so unforgettable?
I’ve had a few memorable travel experiences so don’t know if I can pin it to one, but my first time in Vegas was definitely one for the books. A group of us went for a friend’s birthday and it was the craziest trip I’ve ever been on- our young, wild and free days lol. Pool parties, shopping and more parties. Greece was also amazing, and my first time at Trinidad Carnival- the newness of these events or countries was exciting, the vibes, music and energy (in the case of T&T carnival) all created that overwhelming feeling of joy.
