This Travel Crush Tuesday, we shine a light on Jazmin, Higher Education Worker, Digital Creator, Part-Time Traveler and Full-Time Polaroid Fanatic. Phew! She does it all y'all. Keep reading to find out how Travel Crush Jazmin lives so fully.
Tell us about you! Where are you from? What do you do?
Hello :) My name is Jazmin! I am originally from Lawrence, Massachusetts. However, I recently relocated to DC. I currently work within higher education. I have always been a fan of traveling the world around me whether it is domestic or international. I always travel with one of my instant film cameras! Although snapping shots on my iphone is super easy with amazing quality, instant films are by far my favorite!
When did you catch the travel bug?
I caught the travel bug in college. I did not have the experience of traveling abroad during college. However, I did participate in three different alternative spring break programs to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala (in that order). After my Guatemala trip, I had this desire to continue traveling the world around me. I started researching different countries and I created a list of the top 10 countries I wanted to visit after I graduated college. A Euro trip was on the top of my list.
How does travel fit your lifestyle?
Working within higher education allows me to fit travel into my lifestyle. I take advantage of school breaks, holidays and three-day weekends. I prioritize travel and I make sure to use my vacation days. When it comes to funding my travel, I make sure to set aside money every month specifically for traveling. I also use the app Digit, every couple days this application automatically transfers money from my bank account and stores it in a savings account. I don’t check it often. However, when I do check it I always see an increase in the amount of money I have saved.
What was your experience like the first time you traveled abroad?
When I first traveled abroad, I felt like a little kid in a candy store. I would roam around super alert and in complete awe. I remember experiencing feelings of excitement and wanting to do absolutely everything I can in the time I had allotted in that specific country. At a candy store there’s so much candy, you almost don’t know which candy you want to try first, but you know you want to try it all. The more I think about my first experience traveling abroad, the more I realize that I still travel to new countries and feel like a little kid in a candy store. Every country, and city, is unique in their own way. I strongly believe every location has something to offer.
What has traveling taught you?
Traveling has taught me that the world is so big, yet so small. We have things in common with people all over the world. Just like we have differences as well. Life is happening everyday where you live and it is also happening thousands of miles away from you. Traveling has taught me to be more open minded, to try new experiences, to meet new people, learn new cultures, new languages, and to live in the moment. More than anything it has taught me to step outside of my comfort zone. I almost did not fly to Asia because the first leg of the flight was 14 hours. Looking back, I am so happy that I overcame my fear and took that flight.
