If you lived where people vacationed, would the novelty run out? If you lived in paradise, would it still be paradise to you? Well the results are in... according to this TCT the answer is a resounding yes, paradise is still paradise and no, the novelty doesn't runout.
Meet Kaydiya, she has the same wanderlust for her home as she does abroad and we love it! It maybe be because her insta is letting us in on all the hidden gems far away from the beaten path and tourist traps. Keep reading to see Jamaica through Kaydia's eyes and to get to know this Caribbean Queen a little better.
Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
My name is Kaydia aka Kaydz, and I consider myself fun-loving, outgoing and spontaneous. I am always down for a random road trip, and pre-pandemic, I was definitely catching flights AND feelings, lol. I love to enjoy life and cherish every single moment as they come. I am from the beautiful island paradise of Jamaica, the best little island in the world (don't debate me on this:)) I rep my country hard! I am also a Client Experience Manager for a financial institution. What inspires me to travel - I love to adventure, go to new places, learn about different cultures and ways of life. I love to people watch and immerse myself as well, in new places and experiences. Traveling makes me feel alive, truly alive. It brings me so much joy.
We love that you explore home with the same wanderlust you do abroad. How is it living in paradise?
Living in paradise is honestly amazing to me. I am so thankful to be born and raised in the Caribbean. It's not perfect, nowhere is. But it is indeed home. We have a rich history and culture as Jamaican and Caribbean people. I wake up daily to the most beautiful weather (sometimes extremely hot, and as I type this I am sweating profusely) and views. There are so many things to do and see across the island and I am always planning trips with friends. I love water, and Jamaica has beautiful beaches and rivers. We have several hidden gems and off the beaten path places scattered across the island, as well as all inclusive and boutique resorts and places tourists may visit. I definitely live where you vacation! My aim is always to do a mix of everything. Jamaican people are some of the most friendly, down-to-earth people you will ever meet. So living and travelling across the island, it gives me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, and learn more about them. Even in the most brief conversations, I come away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of my fellow Jamaicans and people in general.
If you could go anywhere in the world at this exact moment, where would it be and why?
I have always wanted to visit Ghana, specifically to visit Elmina/Cape Coast Castle to stand directly where some of my ancestors once stood. When I eventually get an opportunity to do so, I know it will be an impactful and emotional trip. Interestingly, some of this clarity came while I was standing in the Louvre in Paris, immersing myself in European art and history - I thought to myself 'I need to step on African soil, and visit the mother land.' I really want to be able to see, do and experience all the things I wouldn't be able to experience by just reading about it or watching documentaries.
What is the one thing in your carry-on you can't leave without?
My swimsuit! A girl loves her swimmies and water!

My best piece of travel advice - simply, be open to new experiences. Don't hold back. Do and see all the things. Cherish every moment, they eventually become memories. Traveling changes you in ways you don't even realize sometimes, be open to the change it illicits in you.
