Only thing we enjoy more than travel: traveling for free or on the low. Credit card miles are one way to do it. Our travel crush, Mahogany, has all the deets and wants to turn you on if you're not yet up on the scene. Read on for more!
1. Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
I'm a Florida girl who couldn't stay home, hopping around from city to city until I planted roots in Los Angeles. I'm a sports marketer by trade, but my heart is genuinely into inspiring and encouraging people to travel. I'm a travel pusher!
2. Which credit card do you recommend people apply for to maximize travel perks?
When it comes to credit cards, I'm really cautious about pushing one card on all people. We are all different, and our spending habits and travel goals determine which card we should start with. However, a card with transferable points, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, will always be a great starter card. For those in the game already, I love the Capital One Venture X for lounge access and the $300 annual travel credit.
My points have taken me worldwide, but it's a tie between Seychelles and Jordan. They were over $20,000 trips, for which I paid around $600. Can you imagine going to countries in Africa and the Middle East for $600 TOTAL?!!
4. What is your most obscure luxury travel hack?
My goal is to ensure that my people know that these travel hacks are available and accessible, so here is one of my favorites. You can use American Airlines miles to book Qatar Airlines Q-Suite, which is the best business class in the sky. American has both Citi & Barclays branded personal and business cards, so you have plenty of opportunities to earn AA points. In fact, they even have one card, Barclays Aviator Mastercard, where you will get 50-60,000 miles just for making one purchase and paying the annual fee. That includes just buying a candy bar! You can be lying in a bed on a plane to Qatar for 70,000 miles!
5. How do you go about finding flight deals?
I'm all about flight deals, so I could literally spend all day searching for a deal. I mostly use Skyscanner & Google Flights to tell me where I need to go based on price. I leave the destination and dates blank, and it lists destinations by price. That's usually how I determine where to go. I also subscribe to several newsletters like The Flight Deal & a premium miles newsletter called Straight To the Points.
6. Where can folks find you other than Instagram?
Check out my blog at DealDuchess.com. I offer one on one courses and free credit card consultations all on my site.
