Meet Wenny, an accidental travel planner who turned her passion into a business. After years of helping her friends and family plan their vacations, she decided it was time to venture on a new journey.
1. Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
My name is Wenisha "Wenny" Jones. I'm a travel agent, travel blogger, and travel business owner of Lime Vibe Travel. I'm from Guyana in South America, but I live in Washington, DC. My culture and niche market is the Caribbean. I'm an accountant by education and a travel agent by passion. I'm inspired to travel because I love to immerse myself in culture. I love to learn, try different languages, and travel to new travel destinations to see the culture. It inspires me and humbles me greatly to see the world through someone else's eyes and to capture the experiences so that others can see the world through my eyes. My most recent travel experience was to Panama and Guatemala. It has beautiful beaches and mountain views. The culture amazed me.
2. What motivated you to create a travel business?
My family and friends motivated me to create my travel business. I was always a natural travel planner with them; everyone just kept asking me for travel advice and recommendations. In 2019, I turned my passion into Lime Vibe Travel, which was the best decision. I love travel planning and traveling to new experiences. I naturally love to explore and see cultures in different places. I love to travel, and it motivates me in all areas of life.
I love curating trips tailored to the customer's needs and seeing the customers enjoy a new travel experience. I believe when you travel, you can also grow and enlighten your mind and body. I love seeing customers try different experiences with their family, friends, or loved ones. Even travel planning solo adventures can be rejuvenating as well. Travel can be a hassle, especially during the pandemic but to surpass all that and enjoy the vacation is essential.
4. What travel experience are you most proud of creating for a client?
The travel experience I'm most proud of creating was for my father's 60th birthday in Curacao last year. It was a four-day planned weekend itinerary filled with activities and excursions, such as a private carnival theme dinner, island tour, all-white boat party, and all-white dinner party, for over 68 guests to celebrate. Planning a big birthday during the pandemic and having guests traveling to the beautiful Dutch island of Curacao was challenging. But we had a fantastic time with family and friends. As a travel planner, I exceeded expectations and improved my group planning expertise.
5. How do travel agents discover excursions outside of tourist traps?
Travel agents can discover excursions from their host travel agency and get a list of suppliers from their host agency. Travel agents can contact the hotel of their destination to see if there is a recommended excursion or concierge specialist and also contact the excursion company directly.
