What was it that made you catch the travel bug?
Imagine you’re going through life on autopilot and wake up one day to realize "sis, this isn’t it." A majority of those around you are telling you you should feel content with your successes, but you know you deserve more.
All my life I took a traditional route of going to exceptional schools with 0 breaks in between. I graduated with a B.S from fashion school and hopped right into my first post grad position in luxury furniture sales.
At the time I faced a lot of internal conflict because I wanted to be an entrepreneur, I was working a mundane job, freelancing as a curves model and facing heavy friction in my environment.
Because I knew I needed healing and answers I wanted to do something drastic to the point that it would jolt my current state and force me to allow myself to trust in God.
So I packed up and left.
What was your experience like the first time you traveled solo?
One word, exhilarating.
I grew up extremely sheltered and never experienced freedom to that degree. I thought "Wow, the world really is my oyster" and was ready to embark on this new journey.
I was training to be a trauma healing coach and I wanted to show my audience what growth on a journey meant.
It also forced me to create new relationships and taught me true unity is within community.
What has travel brought to your life?
Travel has brought a lot of answers I needed in order to get out of my own head and stay connected to my surroundings.
I think as humans we are easily distracted by what we have going on and as a result we forget life’s most beautiful moments happen right here, right now.
From the newness of unknown places to meeting and engaging with locals — you really start to understand the importance of being present in the moment.
What is the one thing in your carry-on you wouldn't go anywhere without?
This is tough, but I would have to say My smartphone/passport Wallet holder. It’s the only thing I can think of that can hold all of my most important documents without having to stress over if I forgot anything.
What is your number one bucket list destination? Why?
My number one bucket list destination is Mauritius Island, Africa. Why? Because that island screams spiritual reset. It’s also a place where you don’t hear a lot of people speak of. So, I’m curious to see what’s there.
