Mexico! Definitely my beautiful Mexico. I fell in love with it in one day one. Mexico is a magical place where its folks are humble and so kind. One of the reasons why I love this country so much is how well conserved its culture is. The respect paid to its history and the ancestors is admirable.
This country doesn’t receive the praise it deserves due the media's portrayal of it as a “narco-land”. But Mexico is way more than that. I learned so much in my short visit. My heart is still there.
The excitement felt is indescriptible. For example, when I visited Cuba for the first time 4 years ago, it wasn’t my first time traveling abroad or alone. But it was my first time traveling alone with nobody waiting for me at my destination; no friends, no relatives. I was so scared and happy at the same time. I remember landing at night. When I got to the hotel (casa particular) I was feeling terrified and alone. I wanted to go back home that same night. I thought it was a big mistake to visit a country like Cuba by myself. “What the hell were you thinking?” I thought.
I was wrong. So wrong. It’s now one of my favorite trips and the one that made me fall in love with traveling. I enjoyed it so much.
I can say Im a budget traveler but with flexibility. I like saving extra money when I travel, but my comfort is priceless. Traveling for me is about enjoyment and fun. It’s important to me to stay on a budget. But the main purpose of getting away is to treat myself and leave all my problems behind for while. That’s why I save all the money I can beforehand, just to get the trip I want. I don’t enjoy luxury travel if I am honest. It makes me feel so detached from the community and the culture of the country I'm visiting. I'm between spontaneous and a planner. I just go with the flow.
I've got two:
1) Carry your own bottle water. You will save tons of money.
2) Do not travel in jeans and heels. Trust me. It sounds like a small thing, but it can make the difference. From getting to the airport, to going through customs, to getting to your destination: you will be beat when you arrive. I always travel in leggings and comfy sneakers. You’ll feel the difference.
