With the number of Black Travelers increasing every year, people look to Travel Influencers like you and think: "I want to do that for a living!" Can you give us some insights into how someone can become a Travel Influencer?
As a travel influencer I’m certainly not new to travel, however I’m new to the platform of influencer traveling. To up and booking travel influencers, I just want to say this is hard work lol! So much goes into planning the perfect trip, vacations become jobs and so many times I come home from vacation and feel like I need a vacation. Content trips are a lot of work, a lot of moving around and a constant photoshoot. You’ve got to have your looks together, your points of interest, a good camera, tripod or someone that takes good pictures with you. Many times, you’ll change looks in the local bathroom just to maximize your content. With different looks, it certainly helps when you’ve returned from your trip and begin posting your content. More looks give you more days of content to post and engage your audience. Now with reels being a big thing, it’s a good practice to record everything. You never know, you may have one of those months you can’t travel, but you’ll always have video to put together and make a nice reel. My advice would be to stay true to yourself, find your unique niche in the influencer world and stick to it. Stay consistent with your content, make sure your photos are edited properly before posting them and make bold caption statements. Look at your page as a story book of many chapters and bring your trip to life for your viewers.
I think I speak for many when I say your content inspires us to book that flight! What inspired you to use your platform to empower traveling moms?
I am a mother of four boys. My boys are much older, but my youngest is nine years old. With me almost having an empty nest, I decided to incorporate experiences over things with my children. So, for the past six years, we have traveled and built some amazing experiences together. My reasoning for doing that is because three of the four of my kids will be out of the home by next year and I wanted to build these experiences with them that they will forever remember and that would maybe show them there is more to this world than what we see on a day-to-day basis. When my children were younger, I was not able to do the things that I’m able to do now. Being that I am able to do those things I’ve vowed to show them the world. I want to inspire other moms to do the same.
What experience made you catch the travel bug?
Traveling has always been something I’ve loved; however, it wasn’t something I could necessarily afford. Within the last 10 years, travel has become my number one love. There was nothing specifically in my life that caused me to get travel fever, it’s just something I’ve always wanted to do. I remember growing up, I always wanted to go to the Air Force. I always wanted to learn to fly an airplane. Aviation was my hearts joy, however, due to life’s circumstances and having my first child at 19 years old, I never was able to go to the Air Force and I never pursued that dream.
What are your `top tips for traveling on a budget?
When it comes to traveling on the budget, I can tell you now… don’t pick a specific location. When I travel with my children, I travel based on the flights, the cost and then the location. So if we are planning a Christmas trip and I’m wanting to go somewhere with guaranteed snow, I will start searching for flights and whatever is the cheapest for me and for children to travel is the location we would visit. I would then search for ski parks or things of that nature. Once I find out the name of ski parks or snow tubing parks I will then get on Airbnb and start searching for houses in that area. When I travel with my children it’s normally always Airbnb because I am able to cook all the meals which saves a lot of money. When we’re traveling, by not having to spend so much money on food we are able to allocate more of the budget to fun.
Tell us about your most memorable trip. What made the trip so great?
Right now, my most memorable trip would be my most recent trip to Tanzania. Tanzania was one of those places I will never forget. The experience was amazing. The people were amazing. It just felt so good being there. The water is so beautiful, and the food was so flavorful. Tanzania is a place that I feel I could go and stay for a couple of months. It was not expensive at all.
