Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? What inspires you to travel?
I am Vanessa Jone, 25 years old, I currently stay in South Africa, where I was born and bred, however I have Mozambican heritage, fun fact about me I speak English, Portuguese, Tsonga and Zulu. I am the CEO & founder of a digital marketing agency called Koffee Kreative, I also study Forensic Science and technology at the University of South Africa. I love traveling because I get to learn about other cultures, languages, habits, it takes me out of my comfort zone and makes me try new things. I love being out [of my comfort zone], learning new things, having new experiences and making new memories.
What is the biggest life lesson travel has taught you?
My recent trip to Mozambique has taught me to go with the flow. I am a rigid planner, but travel taught me how to go with the flow. My travel journey won’t always go to plan especially with the pandemic and when obstacles arise, I must embrace my impulsive side. Sometimes it’s better to let go of the schedule and take a spontaneous adventure. I never know what I may find, and that’s the beauty of it!
What is the biggest life lesson travel has taught you?
Start saving early and bring more money than you think you will need. Trust me! It’s good to have a budget to stick to, but most people tend to go over. Start saving as soon as possible (like, now) and aim to bring more money than you think you’ll need. The more money you have, the more you’ll be able to treat yourself to nicer accommodation, splurge on fun tours, and not spend your entire trip worrying that you’ll run out of cash.
If you could relive a vacation experience would you and why? Tell us about this vacation and what made it so special.
It would definitely be my trip to Swaziland, I was a teenager when I visited the country and did not experience much, I was with my parents, so I had to stick to their budget and itinerary, but then as a grew older I realized that there's so much to explore in terms of the game reserves and local culture. I absolutely hate traveling to a place and regret not exploring it. I as happened twice but I have learned my lesson.
If you had a ticket to go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
OMG this question got me all excited, not only because the place is on my travel Wishlist but because I am planning on going there early next year. I am beyond obsessed with Italy, I am in love with their environment, buildings, cuisine, language, velvety tiramisu, piping hot melting cheese of a fresh pizza, the smooth cold taste of gelato, the perfect Instagram filter-like golden glow of Lake Como, the very elegant style of roman boutiques, sunlight spilt across olive trees, I feel like I can relate to Italy and whenever I think about it my heart skips a beat I get all excited.
